mos update not working from Ubuntu 16.04

This happened before, was fixed for a version or two, and now the problem has returned.
Is there some configuration which can be done to resolve this on the user end?

$ mos update
Running sudo apt update

  • A work-around:

    sudo apt remove mos

    After successful removal, re-install:

    sudo apt-get install mos
